I saw this survey on Lindsay’s blog awhile ago, and figured I would jump in on the fun, too! Feel free to share your answers in the comments section!
1. What did you eat for breakfast?
A bowl of old-fashioned oatmeal with chia seeds and blueberries fueled me through my morning workout!
2. How much water do you drink a day?
Way more than I used to!! Up until a couple of months ago, I would start my mornings with coffee, and realize in the afternoon that I had only taken one or two sips of water so far. Bad idea! I’ve made a much more conscious effort to drink plenty of water lately, and I can definitely notice a difference in how I feel. I probably drink around 8 glasses a day, which is a huge improvement from what I was doing. I also bought a Camelbak water bottle from Target, which has also helped me to drink more.
3. What is your current favorite workout?
For the past few weeks, I’ve been working with a personal trainer at my gym twice a week. I signed up for three trial sessions, thinking I would just learn a few exercises to do myself, but I love it, so have continued with it for now. Of course, I think that’s the goal when they offer trial sessions for a lower price, thinking you will sign up for more afterwards. Either way, I’ve loved it so far! Working with a trainer helps to push me farther than what I would do by myself – plus it’s not bad having someone stand right there to encourage me the whole time. It’s given me more energy as well as confidence. I used to be nervous about going to the gym without taking a class, but now I am able to go lift or use different machines around the gym.
4. How many calories do you eat a day?
No clue! I don’t count calories.
5. What are your favorite healthy snacks?
I am a big snacker! I would so much rather eat several smaller meals throughout the day and snacks, than sitting down to eat a huge meal. Lots of the time I will eat a snack on the go, or on the way from work to the gym, so my snacks have to be quick and easy. Some of my favorite go-to snacks include: yogurt topped with nuts or granola, an apple or banana, almonds, and peanut butter or almond butter. Out of the jar. With a spoon. So addicting!
6. What do you usually eat for lunch?
Again, I don’t like to sit down and eat a big meal at one time, so my lunches tend to be on the smaller side, and then I will have a snack in the afternoon or on my way to the gym. This past year, my students ate lunch at 10:30 in the morning, so that is also too early for me! I typically have an assortment of the following: veggies or fruit, yogurt, almonds, and/or a granola or protein bar, like Luna, Cliff, or Quest bars (my new favorite!)
7. What is your favorite body part to strength train?
Definitely shoulders- they feel so good! I also love doing deadlifts.
8. What is your least favorite body part to strength train?
Hmmm. Probably bi’s and tri’s.
9. What are your “bad” food cravings?
Anything and everything chocolate! I can eat healthy all day long (and not just because I feel like I should, because I want to – I crave salads and fruit all the time), but put a bag of M&M’s in front of me and we’re in trouble.
10. Do you take vitamins or supplements?
I take a Women’s One-a-Day vitamin, when I remember to, anyways!
11. How often do you eat out?
It varies. I would rather cook at home because I think it’s usually healthier to do so, but I will go out with friends on occasion! It varies, but probably once or twice a week.
12. Do you eat fast food?
Nope! Can’t stand it. I occasionally eat at Panera or Subway if those count, but that’s it!
13. Who is your biggest supporter?
14. Do you have a gym membership?
Yes I do! I have a gym membership that includes access to the fitness and workout machines, and admittance to any group exercise classes. I’ve also started working with a trainer twice a week.
15. How many hours of sleep do you get a night?
When I’m teaching, I go to bed pretty early. I will be in bed by 9 sometimes, and asleep by 9:30 or 10. I usually get up by 5:30 everyday, so my sleep schedule varies depending what I’m doing that night. I probably get anywhere from 6-8 hours of sleep a night. When I’m not teaching, I still wake up early!
16. Do you have a “cheat” day?
I don’t plan “cheat” days, no. I prefer to live an active and healthy lifestyle, and enjoy dessert and other things on occasion. I think it’s all about creating that balance in your life.
17. Do you drink alcohol?
I’m a teacher, so does that answer your question?
I enjoy drinking socially with friends or having a glass of wine after a long day, but don’t drink all the time.
18. Do you have a workout buddy?
Nope! I will occasionally run with others, and I take group fitness classes several times a week. I do like that because I feel like we are all doing it together, so it’s a nice chance from running solo all the time.
19. What is the best thing that has changed about your life since committing to a healthy lifestyle?
Having the mindset that my life should be just that – a lifestyle.
It’s not about counting calories, running to check something off a list, or working out for the sole purpose of how you look. Working out should be fun and something you enjoy! Fitness has improved my mood, energy, and confidence. I started running my sophomore year in college to lose a few pounds, and once I started, I realized how much I loved it. Running is my stress reliever on bad days, running is my time to think, running is my outlet for everything else in my life. That’s why I hate getting injured and not being able to run… don’t mess with an injured runner!
20. What was the last healthy thing you did?
Went for a run this morning outside. It was a hot one!
